i thought it was because she was wearing cheap jewelery but now she just has silver and gold it is still causing her problems ?
so is she allergic? she wants to keep the holes open but what can she use?

I can only use good quality gold - silver I can manage for about 2hrs before problems...

Mamazontopofsantabeingrude · 14/12/2009 11:18

how long has she had her ears pierced?
if they are less than 6 months then they may still be irritated by the fact the hole is new.

she may have an inotllerence to silver/gold.
you could get her some studs from a body piercers, they are hypo allergenic so shouldn't irritate.

TheCrackFox · 14/12/2009 11:32

I can't even wear 9ct gold - it has to be 18ct.

TheMightyToosh · 14/12/2009 11:43

My ears have always been very sensitive, can't wear anything less than gold or white gold (no silver).

BUT I can wear surgical steel, which I think is what is used in a lot of body piercing studs and I think they sell a range of ordinary earings made from it in Claire's Accessories (at least, they used to). Could be worth a try if she doesn't like gold/you don't want expensive ones to get lost.

If she is under 11 it is because she is too young and her body is rejecting them!

If not she is allergic and needs surgical steel.

Does she wear them all the time? I've had my ears pierced for 20 years but if i don't wear earrings for a little while they are very sore and swollen when i wear them again. I have to have them in all the time. Also, when i was younger i had to wear surgical steel as even gold ones used to irritate me, although they don't any more.

candycanesonthexmastree · 14/12/2009 19:14

where do i get surgical steel from ? would be a cheaper option than white gold.
she doesnt wear them all the time due to the pain

Mine are always like this whenever I wear any earings, regardless of metal type. I now rarely wear earings as it isn't worth having sore ears.

When I had them done as a child I ended up with a nasty infectpion as a result.

girlsyearapart · 14/12/2009 19:25

yes i just bought my niece some surgical steel ones from Claires a couple of weeks ago.

Sugarmagnolia · 14/12/2009 21:35

Try switching from studs to hoops - you can get small silver or gold hoops called sleepers. DD had sore ears for months after she got her ears peirced, now she only wears studs very occassionally and never to sleep in and her ears are fine.

she may have nickel dermatitis which is also present in gold. Try and get nickel free earings i.e platinum or get that coating that you can paint on the posts. Its like a nail varnish...but its to help prevent sore ear lobes
