My DS had the most horrific weekend with terrible tonsillitis - in hospital sat night in A&E as there were no beds left in the children ward and the paeds kept coming to check on him, temp 40.3 etc not coming down with calpol etc. By sunday his temp came down and we came home. Yest morning he came out in a rash just on his front and back - not itchy, fades under pressure etc.. Im not worried about it as he is quite perky, playing etc,, temp normal still on antibiotics which he is on every other week.. spoke to paed yest who was also unconcerned. Could it be a viral rash even though his tonsillitis was bacterial?.. Wondering if it is something else unrelated but it is only on his chest and back.. Any ideas?? hes nearly four... Trying to avoid going to the doctors in case he picks up anything else as he is well in himself at the mo. thanks

The bacterial infection may have started as a virus or could have masked a viral infection as well. Both my children tend towards a rash after an infection. Some anti-biotics seem to give them a rash too.

Could also be a result of allergy to washing powder or summat else he's been near.

If no temp., he's not pale, he is drinking fluids and the rash disappears upon pressure, leave him be.

as doodlez said it could be a viral rash that has come on as a result of a viral infection or the high temperature.

If the rash gets alot worse and starts to cover more of the body or the mouth or tongue become sore or inflamed, phone the doctor for advice. I am presuming they are on penicillin....have they had this antibiotic before

How sure were they that this was a bacterial tonsillitis? Has your child had anti-biotics before? If well rash unlikely to be significant unless it represents antibiotic reaction.

I remember my ds always came out in a rash as you have described if he had also had a temperature. Dr said it was often a side affect and another way for the body fighting infection. Keep on eye on it but I'm sure it is OK

If it was a strep infection it might be scarlet fever.

yes i would be asking doc about streptococcal infection. ds has similar rash after sore throat and temp and taking him to doc soon.
