How do I tell if DD's cough is croup and do I need to do anything about it?

DD has got a cough and it does sound a bit like a bark. She was sick earlier from coughing and hasn't eaten much. She's ok though, a bit grumpy but not really seeming ill.

So is a croupy cough more distinctive than just sounding a bit bark like? TIA.

My DD sounded pretty much the same as your DD when she had croup - not wanting to worry you. Def sounded like she was barking when coughing.

Sorry not much more help

DS sounded like a sea lion it was very unusual. Worth checking out if she is coughing violently enough to cause vomiting though.

Agree with WMMC to get your DD checked out due to the vomiting.

That cough is basically it. It may help take her out in the cold air. Sounds weird, but the cold will help ease her airway and make it easier to breathe. Providing she's not struggling for breath, no need to do anything medical really, though if you are worried, take her to A&E-they will be able to give her steriod medicine, which will help her breathe more normally.
DD gets it fairly often in teh winter-is grim, and horrid to hear, but she's always fine after a few days.

Thanks she has just fallen asleep and the coughing has stopped for now so now I am confused becuase she couldnt seem to stop before. It is kind of like a bark but no wheezing, sort of like its on her chest but dry if that makes sense.

When my ds had it, it sounded just like a bark and as if his airway was restricted. I did go to A&E and they gave him steroids but advised us to take him into a steamy bathroom if it came back.

Thanks it sort of is bark ish but not sure! She definately isn't struggling to breathe so it may be a mild case?

Bathroom while you shower and wash your hair with Vosene can help we found. Steamy is good.

Thanks WMMC if she wakes with it (she did last night with the cough but it wasn't the bark sound) I will try steaming her. This winter has been almost constant bugs!

Yup, here too - there's a lot going round this year! We all have interesting rashes and coughs at the minute. Having had vomiting virus number 25 and generic snot causing virus two weeks ago

Tis the season. Ho. Ho. Ho.

Ugh its miserable isn't it? Yes DD has hardly been at pre school this term. Lets hope we're getting them all out of the way so this christmas is better than last (in hospital with vomitting DD) .
