5yo DD not well. 103 temp, abdo pain, pale stools and her heart is racing.

I'm considering A&E. I have an out of hours appointment for this evening at 1840 but i don't know if I should wait.

She's been unwell for a few days, D&V on thursday, better but lethargic yesterday and seems really poorly today.

Her hbpm is 120 ish and her resp rate is up too, it was on thursday but seemed better yesterday.

WWYD ?

Call out of hours gp or NHSDirect. Hope she is feeling better soon.

I would trust your instincts and if you feel panicky then get to A&E. It may be a tedious wait around but at least you will get her seen more quickly. You could call NHS direct first to see if they agree of course...

call nhs direct and they'll bring forward an out of hours appt for you as she's worsening.

treat the fever in the meantime which may be causing the raised heartrate and resp.

i would call NHS direct or just go straight to A&E, you might be on hold for ages for NHS direct, does your own GP have an a/p message to direct you to an out of hours GP service?

I have given her calpol and phoned NHS direct and am witng for a call bck. DF is out in the car at the moment but on his way back.

Not relly. I have an 11mo DS here aswell.

Df shouldnt be long.

She's asleep now which is probably better for her but more scary for me.

if she's sleeping but rousable, i would just leave her to rest as they'll want to wake her when they call you back... monitor her and keep her comfortably cool to keep temp down. if she's old enough for ibuprofen, you could give her that alongside calpol.

pale stools can be common following a stomach bug by the way.

hope you get a call soon- they would have put you through to a nurse immediately if they thought her symptoms needed urgent assessment, which is comforting.

Sorry for not posting sooner.

They called me back and they think it's swine flu. I am not sure really, a lot of the symptoms match but she doesnt seem fluey atall iykwim.

Her temps coming down and she's dozed on and off for the last few hours but seems a bit better, she ate most of a belgian bun so things can't be to bad..

I hope it isnt SF, i have a 11 month old baby who was 3 months early and i am not sure his lungs could cope with it.

Not really sure what to do now.

they should have arranged for you to speak to a GP if there's a baby under one in the house.

they can easily arrange for a GP to call so don't feel bad about asking. you need more clarity and only a GP can give it.

The nurse was adament it was even when I said that DD didnt have any other cold symptoms apart from a slight cough, no sneezing, snot, she isn't chesty etc.

Her tempreture's 37.8 now so the calpol is obviously working.

I have the appointment booked for 1840 so i'll take her then. We were supposed to be going out for a meal tonight, a relatives 40th.. DD's adament she wants to go becuse she's feeling better then in the next breath she's telling me her [insert body part] hurts. I think she's hamming it up a bit. I am probably being neurotic.

Bloody children.. worry worry worry !

How worrying, seems like NHS direct are very fast to diagnose SF at the moment so wait until you see the doc. Hope he is able to help.

It is worrying. The nurse i spoke to was literally putting words in to my mouth saying things like "so you think she might have swine flue" when i had said no such thing, it hadn't even entered my head that it would be.

She explained the pale poo away as "because she's not been eating properly she wont have any nutrients in her body". She's not even especially off her food!

A combination of calpoland neurofen seemed to have perked her up anyway she's asking for a curry !
Anyway they put us on the tamiflu list

Nhs direct said my dd had swine flu 2 weeks ago so i left her with a temp going up to 40 for 4 days before judging my instinct and taking her to the gp, she had a urine infection. She only had a snotty nose and the temp which could indicate swine flu i think they are to quick to diagnose it. Did you take dd to appt?

She seems a bit better today Mme, thankyou

Df went and got the Tamiflu last night but i don't think she needs it. I am not sure it's SF anyway, more likely just a virus.
