Has anyone else's pre-schooler had a ridiculous amount of time off through illness this term?

The waste of Money aside it is just a rotten feeling DD has missed out on so much and I am going stir crazy and loosing all enthusiasm for playing in the house with her . Just having a bit of a moan really as I feel like it is just DD who is always ill and I feel sorry for her having to be cooped up here with me 24/7.....

I give her vitamins and pro-biotics but she still catches anything going. I just would love her to be healthy and more robust, hopefully she will grow out of it (been saying that for 3 years! lol)

no no not just you! Was just checking this thread to see if any ideas re what's going around now? as ds is sick yet again. Missed last week, fever again today. It's such a drag and in my darker moments makes me wonder if there's something more serious going on with him! Don't know what is 'normal' amount of illness is?

Katymac · 01/12/2009 10:48

Not a preschooler but my DD has - she just started High school, so lots of new bugs

Jujubean77 · 01/12/2009 10:48

Oh DD is literally - I send her back in for a week and the next she is off, normal for us! Awful way to live though....

Just thought i would add my list - my ds is a preschooler too:

Sept - cold,tonsillitis
Oct - Tonsillitis, croup, cold
Nov - Tonsillitis, cold, cold, tonsillitis, hand, foot and mouth,
Dec - cold, tonsillitis (already)

Plus everytime he gets ill he kindly passes it on to his little sister - the vicks vapouriser is never off in this house. We're seeing his ENT specialist this afternoon and praying he is going to take his tonsils out in Jan.. otherwise he will never be in school next year!!! BTW - he's four in a few weeks..

That sounds very similar to DDs run of illnesses - how old is your DS?

DS2 (4yrs) has had the past week off with cold/cough/swine flu/lord knows what else. TBh I am beginning to suffer from cabin fever. Fingers crossed he is well enough tomorrow.

biggirlsdontcry · 02/12/2009 16:26

no not just your dd juju my dd 3.11 started pre-school in sept & so far she has had 5 antibiotics in 8 weeks
she has had 2 throat & ear infections
a very bad chest infection that went into her lungs & she was put on steroid inhalers for it , then she caught an infection in her eczema & it spread all over her body , she is sick every few days . i honestly thought about taking her out of school but my gp reckons that she will only be the same next year when she is due to start big school so i should let her build up her resistance now .

Jujubean77 · 02/12/2009 17:27

bigirl - My DD got infected eczema too at the beginning of term! Absolutely horrendous, she had to be put on a AB IV

Whilst it is reassuring to know it's not just DD it is really awful for us all managing these nasty bugs and watching them in distress...

cabin fever is not the word I am going nuts in here, I just know when she goes back next week it will be something else, should think more positively I suppose.

juju your poor dd i know its terrible when they are so sick all the time , i feel so guilty for sending her sometimes when she has just recovered as it feels like im setting her up for another dose of god knows what . , last week dd made it through her first full week in pre-school , each morning her teacher kept giving me the thumbs up & saying oh she's doing well this week , at the moment dd only goes three days a week but in January she will be going for the five days if she's able for it , hopefully your dd will build up her resistance soon , like you i have dd on gummy Vite's vitamins & give her the kiddies probiotics drinks ,

My 3.6 yr old seems to be for ever ill. Nothing serious one month its a cough and cold which makes her sick from the coughing. Now its a stomach bug and high temperature. She only got over the cold 2 weeks ago.

She started pre school in september and since then is always sick, she seems to pick it up before everyone else.

You start to think 'is it me, and i not feeding her the right foods, is the house not clean? is it the cat'?

Also 34 weeks pregnant and was suppose to be working my last week at work but having missed half of it will end up going in next week.

Oh the joys of being a mummy and having sick children!
