Conjunctivitis or just a cold

Hope someone can help me.

I have googled conjunctivitis and DS doesn't appear to have it.

He has been really bunged up all weekend and this morning his eye was all stuck shut. DH and I unstuck it with some cotton wool and cold water and it doesn't seem to be at all swollen or red.

Can this happen with a cold? I know that my eye has been a bit 'gunky' because I have a cold still.

So really MNer's I need some help with this.

(and I really hope it isn't conjunctivitis as then thats another few days off from the CM)

Sorry to be bearer of bad news but colds can cause conjunctivitis and it does sound like it.
Saline helps with the gunk and doc prescribed some drops which were hell to get in but cleared it all up in about 36 hours

Looks like I will have to get DH to take DS to the GP tomorrow then

ok DS has just woken up from his nap and he definitely has Conjuctivitis, his eyes are now all read and glued together again.

Does anyone know how long it is contagious for and whether it is dangerous for pg women as I am 26 weeks with DC and have also now got a red sticky eye!!

It should be OK, use separate towels. You can get optex infected eye stuff from the pharmacy or pop to the GP tomorrow. It's infectious until the redness goes IIRC, a few days if treated.

This sucks big time. Had last week off as have developed SPD this time round.
He has been so bunged up for the last week as well.

Will ring the CM now to let her know no DS tomorrow.

Does anyone know how you explain to a 17MO he can't rub his eyes?

Do you have some gloves to put on his hands? He's less likely to scratch his eyes this way. Poor mite.
