Gungy eye in toddler

DS 20 months has a cold and has a gungy eye.
I used to squirt a little breastmilk when this happened before but I'm not b/f any more.
What's best to do? have been wiping away with a tissue but worried about spreading infection..

My baby just had this, use cooled down boilt salt water to wipe frequently and if doesn't clear up get doctor to prescribe eye drops.
