hi my dd (9)was sick a month ago for 24hrs about 12 times. since then she has felt nauseous. she is startin to feel very poorly. she has had an injury which is takin time to heal and about 3 weeks before she was sick she just finished 6 weeks of nurofen. very worried what is wrong. she has seen a doc who has given her medicine to help her get her poos regular and some antacid medication retitidine (?) do u think it could still be a bug or she has hurt herself when she was sick takin her for an eye test tomorrow. any ideas or anyone whose dc has had something similar x

There is a lingering stomach bug around. My stomach hasn't been right for 10 days, but a month is a very long time.

6 weeks on nirofen could have caused an ulcer or preulcerous condition. That tends to be painful though. If it that ranitide won't be strong enough. Ask the doctor about losec (omperazol) but I am not sure about it's use in children.

I hope she feels better soon.

thank u aubergine x eye test was fine she has no pain (thankfully) just the nausea. would she have pain with a preulcerous condition. anyone else had the stomach bug that has lasted x

only when i came back from holidays with a tummy bug. Had pain and nausea for 2 months.

The ibuprofen(nurofen) could have upset her bowels. Did you give it on a full or empty tummy and did you give it just before going to sleep.

raphael7 · 19/11/2009 19:43

always on a full tummy breakfast lunch dinner. would being full in the bowels cause queasyness? doc said she was a bit congested.

Last time my eldest son complained of persistant nausea it was due to threadworms. I suffered from it was well and it wasn't until the penny dropped and I treated both of us that the nausea went.

raphael7 · 01/01/2010 09:53

oh thank you. how would i know she hasnt been complaining of an itchy bum tho. is that a sign? x

raphael ~ i'm not saying it is this but bear in mind inflammatory bowel disease such as crohns disease which can cause nausea, weight loss and fatigue as well as stomach aches and fever and aches and pains ~ keep an eye on her weight and ask her about diarrhoea as well.
It is difficult to diagnose at first and there can be a delay in diagnosis so keep it in mind ~all the best.

labyrinthine · 01/01/2010 10:06

should have said stay away from nurofen etc as they can cause nausea.

raphael7 · 01/01/2010 10:51

thank you. it just seems to be nausea at the moment. she has not had the nurofen tabs since september - it was a 6 week treatment for her pain in her feet - i havent given it to her since - im worried it has hurt her. thank you labyrinthine for your comments x

My DD had a bug with sickness and vomitting on and off for ages a few years ago. We went to the GP a few times and the final one we saw told us that some bugs can leave you temporarily lactose intollerant. We put her on a strict lactose (dairy) free diet for a while and it did the job. Might be worth a try.

raphael7 · 08/01/2010 10:18

thank you so much. my neice said could be it im just worried she has an ulcer because she was on 200mg ibroprufen tabs for 6 weeks from august to sept and she is only 9 - im so worried it has hurt her x
