DD2s coughing herself awake

What can I give her/how can I help her get some rest tonight? She's 2.4 and is thoroughly miserable. She had Calpol at bedtime but I don't know how to ease her cough long enough for her to get a good sleep.

Tips/advice greatly appreciated!

Does she have a bad cold/virus?

If the cough is not due to the above, you should take her to see your gp, as a night time cough can be due to asthma.

Warm drinks, calpol and a humidifier can help. I used to hang wet washing in the room to moisten the air a bit. I also used a wright's vapouriser which helped.

Thanks, I've put some karvol on her as she's got a stuffy nose but she's been coughing all day so I think her throat is sore. Will get some wet towels on the radiators now too.

My DD is 19 months and has been coughing a lot. I went to the chemist and asked their advice. From 2y + they can have 'chesty' cough medicine and from 3m + they can have 'tickly' cough medicine. I felt that DD had a chesty cough but the pharmacist said I coudn't give that to her so I bought tickly stuff. It is glycerin based and soothes the throat. I was putting on lots of vicks (front and back) and giving her 2 spoons of cough medicine before bed and then if she woke in the night another dose of medicine. Last night was the first night in a week she has not woken in the night coughing. I also dropped some children's Olbas oil on a flannel near her cot to help her blocked/snotty nose.
She didn't need any of this stuff during the day but her cough seemed much worse at night.
