umbilical polyp?

I took my DD (5 weeks) to Dr last week as her belly button was still not healing up properly. Her stump fell off on about day 4. He said that she has an umbilical polyp, as a result of a low grade infection. He took a swab and said he's be in touch if it needed treatment. I was advised just to clean regularly with salted water and keep an eye on it. I've now made the mistake of googling it - and am worrying htat she'll need surgery.

Anyone got any experience of this? Thanks

Both my children had overgranulation of their umbilicus, it was basically just a little red stump in their belly butttons. Does this sound the same?

With ds (now 6) he had a couple of doses of silver nitrate on it, administered by the HV and it cleared up. With dd (2) the HV gave a couple of doses and it wouldn't clear up. Somebody told me to put salt directly on it for a couple of days and low and behold it cleared! It didn't bother her at all.
