Anyone else with a 2/3 year old on Seratide?

DS1 has suffered from wheezy attacks since he was one. They're always in conjunction with a cold.

He was initially given Salbutamol then was put on a brown preventor at about 18 months.

He continued to have attacks and was admitted to hospital last winter, when he was put on Montelukast, and the dosage was upped to 4 puffs of Beclazone 50 twice daily.

He had another nasty attack in September, and was still wheezing 5 days later after a 5 day course of prednisolone.

He was referred to a paed who's put him on 2 puffs of Seratide and continuing with the Montelukast.

Does anyone have experience of this combination and did it work for you?

I'm desperate to get his preventors right. He's had 11 attacks in the last 2 years, 11 doses of prednisolone, all while on varying doses of Beclazone,so that clearly wasn't working. He also had a short stint of taking Seravent and Beclazone, but that didn't stop the attacks either.

He starts preschool in January and the germ fest worries me!!

We have had both seretide and flixotide and montelukast.

We have had side effects with all three BUT ds has other allergies and meds are an issue for him. Montelukast is a good preventer and one my mother does well on (she is not allowed steroids and this is non steroidal) and serevent. It has reduced her attacks and the severity of the problems when she has a cold or illness.

Be warey of motelukast if ds is milk intollerant as it is milk based and why ds cant have it (milk anaphylatic). Give it a good go because asthma meds and how they work is very individual and what works for one might not work for others. To me it sounds like a full on attack on the asthma. good luck

If no good with seretide ask about flixotide.

Luckily we don't have any other health issues to worry about, so montelukast is fine.

So this sounds like a fairly hefty dose to you, does it? For a not quite 3 year old?

It's Seratide 50 btw

seretide 50 is the lowest dose and the montelukast is pretty lower. Yes it sounds hefty but then the asthma is severe so based on the problem of the asthmas i would say about right. Hopefully it will stop trips to hospital with the asthma for you. Scarey stuff that and very glad ds' asthma not anywhere near that in severity.

Yes, that's what were after, something that will control the attacks so they don't turn into a hospital visit.

Thanks
