Red ears - cause for concern?

Over the last week or so, DS has several times had one or both ears very red.
He doesn't have any other symptoms, still eating, drinking and sleeping.
Could this be an infection? I don't like to waste Dr's time (by being pfb-ish!)

My DCs get red ears when they are tired!
Is he pulling at it at all? If he seems well otherwise I would leave it. Any temperature may indicate a problem - one of mine developed a high temp and it was an ear infection.

No obvious pulling I can think of, and like I say, seems ok otherwise. Would just hate to think he was suffering and I was ignoring him!
