teething and cold symptoms

hi there, quick question -

dd is definitely teething (red cheeks, dribbling, crying, difficult to console, chewing on hard things) but she's also SERIOUSLY snotty with very runny nose.

Is this teething plus cold or is this normal teething?

What can I do??!! Tried (and failed) to use a snot sucker to clear her nose a bit, I have a vague memory of someone talking about using saline solution first. She's 8 mths, is she too young for Vicks?

Not sure what age it's ok to have direct skin contact, but can put Vicks or olbas oil on clothes (if you don't mind possible staining) or a couple of drops on the sheet on either side of her head - so you get the fumes without skin contact.

Saline works a treat but very annoyed baby - but if the nose is running freely rather than blocked, maybe not needed?

Not seen a snot sucker with tube small enough to get up a little baby's nose!

Good luck
