Present for 3 yr old starting chemo

My goddaughter (4 in December) is about to start a course of chemotherapy . She will be in and out of hospital for quite a while - it's a long course as it's low dose I think. So far I have sent some colouring books etc, thinking that she will be bored, but I'm wondering what sort of things might be well recieved/useful? Is there any sort of little collection of toys that I can get her at regular intervals so she has a new "little friend" to take in with her?

How about a special build a bear, bear? A friend of mines DD was in hospital for two months, grandparents brought the bear and friends brought clothes, toys etc for the bear. She absolutely loved dressing it, chatting to it, tucking it up at night etc etc. Otherwise DVD's, slow games as she is probably going to be very tired. Best wishes for your goddaughter.

Hi,

A build a bear is lovely but not easy to clean. Your neice's immune system is likely to be severely compromised and soft toys are not always a good idea.

Whatever you choose make sure its washable (hot wash) and wipable.

Stories on CD and a kid's CD player are great because the little lamby may be too weak sometimes to sit up and read/play.

Smallish things that are easy to hold when little hands are feeling weak, shiney, exciting glittery things, DVDs etc are usually popular.

Can I ask what her diagnosis is? I only ask because it may give you an idea of how long her treatment will last.

I would say dvds that she could watch if she is having a tired day.Also toys that are plastic and easily cleanable as Chegirl said if her immune system is weakened.Lego?Drawing and colouring stuff sounds good for days when she feels up to it.Books for her parents to read to her.Pretty hats/scarves and so on for if/when she loses her hair.

Seding love and strength to you and her parents and her.

Fisher price Little People areextremely popular with my dd 3 atm.They have a lovely little dolls house type thing and people that has sounds and so on that dd absolutely loves and has played with nearly constantly for almost a year.

DS is 3 and we got him a Playmobil ambulance from new baby DD which he absolutely loves and plays with over and over.

For now I have ordered a Peppa Pig in a nurse's outfit, a Sylvanian rabbit family, and some mini-aquadraw mats. When they come, I will work out what's best to give her for now, and anything unsuitable can be for my DDs Christmas presents! Thanks for the heads-up about easily washable / cleanable - that's a good point.

Hi Bramshott. The suggestions on here are fab and I would echo the easily cleanable things, although if she is particularly attached to one or two cuddly ones they could be thrown in the washing machine!

Dvd's are great for times when she may be tired and not really feel like playing, and a few funny books that someone could read to her to make her smile
