Threadworms

Found a little wiggler in DD2's nappy this morning. I know we all have to be treated (and I'm trying to get a prescription asap), but what else do I need to do? None of us have any itching, we have our own towels and flannels. Do I need to tell people? DD2 goes to pre-school, DD1 to primary school.

I would tell the pre school at least, you will need to clean everything especially bedding on a nice hot wash and try and stop your DD2 from puting her hands in her mouth (very difficult I know )there is likely to be more wrigglers when the medicine has been taken as a lot of them work by basically evicting the critters from the lining of the bowel and stopping them from reattaching. Clean and dry the anus reguarly as well

we've just been through our first bout of threadworms with ds. if i were you, yes, i would tell the pre-school. if your dd2 has them, she's picked them up from somewhere, most likely there, so someone else must also have them. i didn't bother waiting to get a prescription, would take too long to get a doctors appointment at our gp's, you can get everything you need over the counter.

all towels, bedding will need washing. if she has a sponge you use at bath time, bin it. we switched to flannels instead which can be washed every day. main thing to do is get her hands washed before she eats, particularly at pre-school, she could have picked up threadworm eggs from toys there.

We had threadworms a month ago. We took our first dose of medication, then the second two weeks later. My son was the only one itching; he stopped the day he took his first dose.

We cleaned and disinfected the whole house from top to bottom. Then we washed our bedding at 90 degrees every day post first dose for a week. We washed all towels after each use every day for a week. We checked for 'live' worms post medication, found some four days later, so pharmacist advised taking a second dose which we did. Then we did not see anymore live ones.

We have been worm free ever since. We told nursery and they put a sign up to warn others that worms where about!! Id never heard of them and did not recognise the signs until I saw a live worm in sons poop.

We also wore clothes in bed and washed them each morning. All clothes were washed after each use.

i have to admit i went into overdrive a bit with the cleaning and was wet dusting/hoovering/washing every day in fear of eggs being all over the house. all together, i'd actually only seen 3 worms on ds, 2 live before we treated with ovex, and 1 dead one a day after, seen nothing since.

our problem is ds is a nail biter, have spent half term working on getting him to stop.

Got some Ovex, and we've all had a dose, and bedding is in the wash now.

They're both thumbsuckers unfortunately. The wonder is it's taken this long to get them, I suppose.

All brilliant advice - we've been plagued too and Ovex worked for us. If anyone's interested, a natural prevention/cure is garlic and raw carrot (not necessarily together). I fed mine garlic fried potatoes with every meal for a week (!) and they had loads of raw carrots too. It worked brilliantly - got rid of the worms entirely.

I'm sure I read something on here about pineapple being good ( or bad if you're the worm)

Garlic, raw carrot and pineapple. My two have no problem with those!

so, a raw carrot a day keeps the wormys at bay!
