could there be a reason why my 3 yr old ds gets so many chest infections?

He has asthma, uses both blue and beige inhalers but only needed autumn/winter. Took him to gp last night and he has another chest infection plus a throat infection. This is his first one this 'season' but thinking about it, he has had a few every winter. Always needs anti biotics, always makes asthma worse or ends up with croup.

I know asthmatics are more vulnerable to infections but could there be any other reason?

DS has inhalers and had chest infection after chest infection. His adenoids are a bit big, so he is v snotty - Dr says that what then happens is that it drips down and takes infection to the lungs. So we now have Sudafed liquid which dries up all the mucus a treat, and this has really reduced DS's coughing, and he is hasn't had a chest infection since he started on it. Has been total magic.

He did have full screening for allergies, CF, and immune system problems as he had such a bad infection and partially collapsed lung when he was 1. Leaving us with a diagnosis of asthma and general mucusiness

hmm, have just had allergy tests done...didnt come up with anything..just intollerances. He is having a sleep study done friday as he used to have sleep apnea (havent noticed it last 6 months or so) but taken this long in NHS!! I questioned adenoids to the ent consultant, he said didnt think was an issue... ds has always been sort of 'snotty'

I swear by avoiding dairy to avoid chest infections. My DS, now 3, was just like yours, every winter would get a cold, cough and chest infection leading to anti-biotics. I took him off dairy completely and whilst he will still get a bit of a cold and runny nose, so far, it never seems to get to the more serious infection stage. We have a history of asthma and excema etc on both sides of the family which may not be the case with you, but the dairy avoidance has worked well for us.

he is intollerant to dairy! So he never has any

Have you seen an asthma nurse? it might be that his asthma isn't generally as under good control as you think it is.
