What is 'mild' chicken pox and will she likely get it again??

Any advice gratefully received.

DD has developed chicken pox, from what I can tell there are only 10-15 blistery ones and the others are red blobs, expect they are very small blisters if I could only get close enough to see them as she will not let me look.

Is this 'too' mild. Is she likely to get more in the next 24 hours or is this too mild and she runs the risk of getting it again. The first blister appeared overnight on Wednesday so I saw it as she got up yesterday morning.

She is pretty poorly, sleeping loads and has had a temp of 39 for two days straight.

When my DS had 'the pox' they kept on getting spots for about 5 days or more. I think once they have it then they can't get it again - not heard of it being too mild?

Let her rest, sleep, plenty of calpol and piriton to help the itching. Good luck!

My DD has chicken pox at about 9months, I was told that as she had it mildly (didn't seem mild to me!) and she was under 2 there is a chance she might get it again.

A colleague of mine has a DS who had chicken pox at about 18months recently had it again as he had an allegedly mild case the first time around. It is obviously just a case of the degree of immunity they get from having it, which you aren't going to know unless she is unlucky enough to get it again iyswim?

Pippy, thanks. It is good to have a timeline in my head. The ones in her hair are most definitely 'crusty' so I am guessing these may have been here since Wednesday and I just missed them.

Ewe, I thought she would be worse already as she has food-induced eczema. DD is over 2 so I am really hoping this is our one and only time! I am rubbish at watching back-to-back Peppa Pig!

Dd1 got it 'mild' you could definitely see the spots but could've taken her out without people realising that she had it iyswim.

Dd2 had it at about 6 months and looked like something out of a horror film.

Both were under 2 when they got and doc said v unlikely they would catch again esp as dd2 had it so bad.

So I guess it does have something to do with how bad it is.

p.s- Wine? It's therapeutic I hear.

Girls - hi there, nice to have you about today. It has been shockingly shite, we were supposed to go away to friends for a start of half term weekend, was really looking forward to it.

Hey ho, this is a seriously dreadful year all in all so the closer we get to the end of the year the happier I will be!

My dd (3) has cp too. She had a couple on Tuesday, few more on Wed and by yesterday started to look more covered... now she looks terrible and am hoping this is the worst it will get.

PS back to back TV here too, on the television and the PC...nightmare. Am going stir crazy! Have a 5 yr old and a baby as well who I suppose will get it in a few wks

Coonrapids - poor you. I was hoping we had all our spots but guess there maybe more tomorrow. poo. I do sympathize with your next few weeks.

I am so desperate to avoid more peppa I have resorted to the ironing!! cleaned the kitchen floor and emptied and refilled the dishwasher!! This is getting out of hand !!

my dd only had a few spots, was hardly ill at all, but dp caught it from her and was really ill for weeks with it

My DS also had it very mildly and I was told by the GP that whilst it was possible for him to get it again, that it's quite rare.

Thanks guys. I will wait with baited breath for the morning to see if this is all we are going to get. She only has 2 or 3 on her face right now, from a certain angle you would never know she was poorly, apart from the fact she is either a deathly shade of pale or beatroot red depending how far through the calpol dose we are!!

I'm afraid my middle ds had chickenpox mildly as a toddler and then a very bad case when he was about 4 yo. It was definitely chickenpox both times. So I hope for your sake that a few more spots appear this time and then nothing ever again.

How does the rash start?

we have a suspected case here. But not blisters as such, just as rash on ds's arms

Euw, Once Was, I think we have enough spots now to be a 'proper'dose though.

Nigella, we started with pink round flat dots, almost like think nibbed felt tip pen marks, they grow and blister, going more oval in shape then crust. Nice. We have all stages now, crusty old ones, blisters and dots (new oens). DD had just 4 for 24 hours before the others came to join the party. I think we have 24 more hours of new spots, am really hoping she does not end up smothered as she is now really itchy.

Hi again BBF - I saw the tell tale spots on older DS(5) earlier when he was in the bath! So if he's come out with it 3 days after his sister, then presumably they caught it at the same time...??? That would explain why he's been so darn grumpy/tired coming out of school the last few days..

Am actually quite happy if he gets it now rather than waiting two weeks, although baby still may get it later and he's only 10 wks old...

Sorry to hear the spots have got worse for your DD but at least you know for sure what it is.

CoonR - isn't baby too young? Are you BF? If so or even not I am pretty sure baby is protected by your antibodies so young.

I would say the older two got it together, hahahaha, that may allow you to pin point the purpertrator - mawahhaaaaa sorry, its been day!

Yeah I've been obsessing over who the perpetrator is but can't think of anyone. They went to swimming together just under 3 wks ago, could have been then. However, if loads of DS class get it after half term then it's going to be clear to everyone that DS was the perpetrator! Had thought he would be infectious only in half term.

Hopefully baby is too young or gets it midly as I am BF him...

Good luck with it anyway.
