Hi there my 4 yr old had a fever earlier today, I gave her Children's Paracetamol at 4pm this afternoon, since then she's got increasingly hyoer. Now it's 9.20pm and she's still WIDE awake.

She's never had this reaction before, is this common? Any ideas on how to calm her down so she can sleep?

Does she still have a temp? If yes, then perhaps it's the fever making her a bit delirious. If no, then perhaps it's something (colours etc) in the paracetamol. Is it a different brand than you normally use?

Thanks Lucie, her temp went down quickly after the paracetamol, but she was a LOON for hours. I don't think it was a different brand . . . but she is hardly ever ill (thank Gawd) so has only very rarely had medicine.

She finally slept about 10pm and seems fine now (following morning).

Was it the one that includes a sedative? If so, apparently it doesn't sedate around 10% of kids, in fact it makes them hyper. We tried Phenergan once when DS had chicken pox and it had exactly the opposite effect...

I find that if I give my DS the no-sugar version he goes a bit - well, mental. As a result I avoid no added sugar versions and stick with the sugar version. We have no problems with this, although it can be relatively hard to find. Sainsbury's usually has it.
