Spots on bottom lip/bottom gums/tongue, tongue also has red lump like things on it.

Rash on chin. Few spots around tonsil area.

He's drinking fine, eating not a lot.
No temp, but is in a right grump, was up 3 times last night and already woken twice tonight (since 7pm) gave him calpol at 7pm cos he kept pointing to his mouth and saying "Oww" (he's 2.5yo)

He has docs in the morning, but thought I'd ask here first ?

could well be primary infection with hsv (cold sore virus)

if you have a baby as well best to keep them apart as much as poss until you have diagnosis

good luck tomorrow

CarGirl · 07/10/2009 22:33

I thought cold sores too if it is the first time they get is usually really horrible and last quite a long time.

Do you know anyone who suffers from coldsores?

Claire2009 · 07/10/2009 22:44

Don't know anyone that suffers/has a coldsore.

Doesn't look coldsore like, I'd expect a coldsore to be a spot/scab on the outside of his mouth somewhere, but inside?

I have a 3.7yo DD as well, she is absolutely fine.

Hand foot and mouth? Does he have spots or blisters on his hands/feet?

Claire2009 · 07/10/2009 22:54

Nope, no spots/marks/anything anywhere else, did think of that but nothing other than his mouth/chin.

Check his hands and feet, could me hand, foot and mouth disease?

Poor thing, hope he feels better soon.

catchingzeds · 07/10/2009 22:57

Bit late! Although I think spots on hands and feet could appear a little after spots in the mouth.

3littlefrogs · 07/10/2009 22:57

There is a thing called "trenchmouth" that children can get just from putting dirty fingers / objects into their mouths. It is a bacterial infection, and starts with the germs getting into one small crack or broken skin, and spreading. Maybe that's it?

Claire2009 · 07/10/2009 23:03

I've never known DS to have any cracks/broken skin on his mouth though? Is it a bit like impetigo? Also, he's had the mouth spots for 3-4 days now, just bad mummy only noticed them yesterday

He had H,F & M when he was 14mths old, that was truly awful!

Maybe it is a virus. Please come back and tell us what the doctor says!

Funnily enough there is another thread on here tonight with someone else complaining of very similar symptoms - perhaps there is a virus going round?

Will do! Will pop on tomorrow when I get time, I'm thinking virus but I really don't know!

Thanks

Doc says he's teething, cutting his back teeth, she can't see any other reason why he has the rash/spots. Had another bad night with him last night and he's been soooo grumpy all day!
