If your child had mild chicken pox

What were the spots like? How were they in themselves?

My baby had mild chicken pox (aged 12 months) in that she was really pretty well in herself - no temperature, eating totally normally, sleeping pretty well, generally wouldn't know she was ill apart from the gross spots!

In terms of the spots, I think she had far fewer spots than many children but she still hhad probably 20 to 30, and they looked just like those if you google images of chicken pox spots (at first small and red, changing to pus-filled within 24 hrs of each spot appearing, then going crusty). There was no doubt it was chicken pox.

She didn't particularly itch them and was just a bit surprised when she saw one. We did coat her in calamine, and give her baths with bicarbonate of soda in (meant to help).

Are you worried about a DC?

Well DD broke out in spots on Saturday night, on her chest and back. No more appeared and she seemed/s well in herself. The spots look like insect bites IYSWIM, however they didn't blister so I took her to the GP on Monday and she said it could be a mild form of chicken pox but obviously couldn't be sure. There was a tiny blister in the middle of the spot but hardly noticeable and today they have got tiny scabs on them.

What else could it be if not the pox?

How old is she? Apparently the younger the child the more mild the chicken pox (although not always). Hope she is feeling well?

She is 3.8mths, she seems to be getting better and spots are drying up so that is good news.

DD2 had 6 CP spots(confirmed by gp) aged 13 months, they went then 18 months later got another 9/10 spots, then finally 4 weeks ago had LOADS!! Just in time for them to heal up for school!!

GP said she probably wouldn't be immune to CP until she had a really good dose of them. She was so ill as well, but at least it's out of the way now! DS caught them at the same time (he's 1) and although he had them everywhere, it never bothered him!
