My neice 20mths is currently in hospital after suffering such a bad dose of croup she almost had to be ventilated. Thankfully shes settled at the minute.

She's had a chesty cough almost since she was born and there is a history of Asthma in the family but the Drs say they can't diagnose asthma until she is older.

Does anyone know if there is a link between croup and asthma and could this croup attack actually be an asthma attack?? Its not the first she's had.

My ds who is nearly 5 suffers from croup, he also had his first bout at 20th months. We took him to be checked out at a specialist who diagnosed him with a narrowing of the windpipe and said that he will grow out of the croup by the time he is 5. I am delighted to say that he has not had croup for nearly 1 year.

Up until then my husband and I have had many a night-time visit to Watford A&E for his medication to relieve the croup.

My sister (who is in her late 30's) is an asthmatic and developed from nowhere when she turned 5 and she never had croup as a child.

thanks. I guess it can be related or just croup alone. we'll have to wait and see!
