39.2C should i be worried?

dd (13 months) had jabs last week,

been snotty and a little clingy since,

tonight she has temprature,

checked an hour ago and was 38.7,

gave calpol,

checked again and its gone up,

what do i do?

assuming child is stripped down

you could put a fan in the room if you have one

don't panic

if temp not foing down after calpol, perhaps try giving your out of hours doc a ring?

should i take her pjs off?

her feet are freezing if it makes any difference

i would say take her pjs off and leave her in a vest. Would def think about calling out of hours if her feet are cold too.

Franklymydear is right: if temp not going down, you can alternate calpol and ibuprofen as they're very different drugs. Basically, keep giving calpol with the recommended time gaps in between each dose and do the same with ibuprofen. One is 3, the other 4 hours, I think, but you need to check with each. this should definitely bring the temp down.

Sorry, the feet being cold bit was not meant sarcastically - can just very occasionally be a sign of other things.

her top half is much hotter than her bottom half,

calprofen is ibuprofen. It is the name the manufacturers give it as they also make calpol but calprofen is ibuprofen and calpol is paracetamol, so you can give both at the same time.

One of my children spiked a high temperature after his MMR (presume that is the jab you mean). It went above 40. Try not to panic and keep up the meds, a lukewarm flannel on face and wrists maybe, and no clothes.

Don't have the flannel too cold.

What is the leg like where the needle went in?

Beware having windows open and Fans n,as if she shivers her "Core" Temperature will go up,as shivering is the bodies way of generating heat.

Just alternate the medicines,Calpol is 4 Hourly and Ibuprofen/Calprofen is 6 Hourly.

Lukewarm flannel is good,as Dumbledoresgirl said.
I would reduce bedclothes down to a sheet,but cover her so she doesn't shiver.

Wait for up to an hour after both meds have been given,temp should statrt to reduce,usually in about 20 mins.If still climbing,I'd take her to your A&E/WIC.

Ibuprofen is always better at controlling a temp.
Calpol sometimes doesn't help as much IME.

milk or water? does it mattter which so long as fluid?

gave calpol at 8pm when can i give calpofren?

If she wants Milk thats ok,but still give water or squash,as this will help bring the temp down,but milk wont.

Usual advice is an hour after Calpol.But my DS was given them simultaneously in A&E,so although its preferred nowadays to give them an hour apart,theres no real danger,except it can make them very drowsy.

So now would be good,should see a more effective lowering of temp hopefully.

If you are worried about during the night,I used to make a bed up next to my DC's so i could check on them,or set your alarm for 3.30am to check her.

you can only give paracetamol four times a day and ibuprofen 3 times a day. But the ibuprofen must be with food,not on an empty stomach.high temperatures are more dangerous when they spike, I was told that a constantly high temperature is not as much of a concern as one that jumps up and down. careful how much ibuprofen you give as it can strip the bowel in such a young baby

still 39.7 this am after various treatments over night

called gp and they have given anti virals (collection point ones)

heres hoping its not swine flu but best to be safe i guess,

you may have been right,

demanded to see gp as not sure about anti virals as dd had mmr last week,

doc examined her (with full gaown and swine mask) and says she has tonsillitus,

possible swine flu but will treat the tonsils first with anti bis before starting anti virals,

sasy will see her again in 24 hours,

she is still running a 39C temp (39.7 at the docs) so fingers crossed with anti bis work,

bless her, she is wiped out and so poorly
