2yo ds suddenly looking peculiarly hairy!

My dsis who hadn't seen him for a week said it yesterday - she noticed around the eyebrows - I'd already noticed a line of dark hair that's grown from his hairline down to a scab on his forehead - then tonight in the bath dh noticed a distinct trail along the middle of his spine and I noticed a smallish tuft on his shoulder. All quite new and perplexing.

Possible causes? Or trip to the doc's?

Testosterone surge? I know nothing about boys thank goodness, if you do't get any other answers, maybe consult your local newspaper about possible werewolf bites in your neck of the woods.
