17mth old DD with teething related constipation, How can I make her feel better?

Whenever DD cuts new teeth she gets terrible constipation.
Since around midday she has been trying to go and is getting so upset by it and I feel helpless because I don't know what to do to help her, She literally clings to me sobbing and screaming in pain.

I have made sure that she is drinking plenty of water and i've just given her a nice warm bath and massaged her tummy but nothing seems to be working.
Is there anything I can give her?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

prunes, prune juice, diluted fresh fruit juice, some people find raisins help too.

I'm sorry she's having such a hard time. One way to relieve the pain is to lie her on her back and to move her legs in a 'bicycle' movement. This may help to ease her discomfort but may not actually result in production. One slightly extreme way to do that is to apply cooking oil to a cotton bud and insert it up her bottom. This will help to loosen her up. (Apparently. I've never needed to try it.) However, are you it's the constipation rather than the teething itself causing the pain?

Thanks for replying.
Seona1973 I've been giving her raisins in the hope that this will get things moving but we have no prunes or prune juice, I'll get some of that tomorrow.

RuthChanI did the bicycle thing with her legs after massaging. Its definately the constipation causing the pain, She keeps going rigid and straining till she's red in the face and sweating poor little girl.

Fruit juice is good, and avoid bananas.

Hi - really sorry that your toddler is in pain. I'm also dealing with a 17month old teething. I give grapes when my DS is constipated and it always seems to work pretty quickly. A grape / prune combination will be very effective I'm sure.

Hope it gets better soon.
