Linea Nigra in a child....has anyone else seen this?

Dd has (fairly recently I think) developed a linea nigra (just like mine used to be!).

I think she is going through a growth spurt (she's almost 9) and is definitely starting to be hormonal (arm pits starting to be sweaty, possible start of breast growth) but I was wondering if this is something I should be flagging up with the doctors or is it normal.

I just can't remember.

Should also say that we are a family of hyper pigmenters anyway. Both children have a fair bit of hyperpigmentation on them as do I (none of which has been checked out by the GP as the children are not in ill health in any other way).

should have asked if any of your children got one around puberty/hormonal time!

I've had one for as long as i can remember, certainly since i was in my teens (way before children ) but can't remember when it first appeared tbh. I remember reading pregnancy books that were saying how the linea nigra appears when you are pregnant and thinking 'but i've had one for years'!

ah ha!

I'm pretty sure I had one too!

Do you mind me asking if you are fair or dark skinned? I'm wondering if it makes a difference.

Dd is very dark and I'm wondering if that could be a contributing factor.

DD1 was born with a faint one and it has never gone. White, but close to olive skin, brown eyes, brown hair.

WinomoreTheFruitbat · 09/08/2009 17:01

DS1 has had one for as long as I can remember, he's 4 now. I never realised children could get them, thought pregs only

WinomoreTheFruitbat · 09/08/2009 17:06

DS1 is white but goes a nice olive colour in the sun, blonde, blue eyes

Dlamis · 09/08/2009 17:12

I'm very fair skinned, fair hair, blue eyes.

ah so maybe nothing to do with skin colour . I am also v fair but dd is much more like her dad in colouring!

it's good to know that other people have them

I might just ask the doc next time she needs to go (hopefully not a while!) as she has other hyperpigmented patches (but then as I said in my OP, so does ds and so do I) but I suppose always better to ask.

DD2 has always had a faint one (she is 5)

She's blonde with blue eyes

My 16 month old daugther got a linea nigra recently.

I do have one since I remember, but it still worries me about my daugther having one because I have read it is due to hormones, and she is so very young.

We are "brown", mixed race (several going back many generations), daugher ligther than mommy. But her linea nigra looks just like mine use to before pregnancy (mine is much more darker now).
