I think DS has chicken pox... boring for most of you I am sure but I need advice!

DS is 3 yesterday. Last night he said he had a headache but I put it down to exhaustion from his party. Today he has a headache and now a red rash on him, mainly on one of his arms at the moment but he doesnt like it touched he screams and says it hurts. He is also very irritable. DH is taking his temp now. What do I do? How do I know if its chicken pox?

NHS direct are not taking calls due to swine flu. Have called out of hours dr they are calling back within 20 mins

took him to out of hours he said the rash seemed like a viral thing he said it didnt look quite like chicken pox and told us to give DS some piriton. DS has a headache and neckache (the doc knew that) and his rash has spread a bit

What sort of rash is it? Does it look like bruises??

he doesnt have a temp, the rash is pretty flat, red spots. most small but some are bigger. It covers most of one arm, is a little on the upper bit of his other arm and he has 1 red spot on his cheek which I dont know if its related or if its just a little spotty thing.

When we left the doctors he said "but my head still hurts!" I think he thought the doctor would fix it.

Do the spots go if you push a glass onto them?

Do his legs hurt aswell?

still no temp, the spots do go, the doctor checked that first thing as he said it didnt look enough like pox. I wish I knew something other than just "viral" though. Doctor also said to worry a bit as he hadnt had chicken pox yet! Said to find a party.

Could be Chicken Pox, it starts off feeling off colour.
'Viral' covers a multitude of things. Maybe it is. Wait and see what develops, IIRC, the blisters really don't take very long to come out.

Maybe get some calamine cream/lotion in just in case?

3 spots in 2 days doesn't sound like cpox.

it isnt 3 spots in 2 days its 3 spots since last night. his arm is covered in spots & the other arm halfway, they came yesterday.

I would still have expected more by now tbh especially on his body and the originals to be fluid filled blisters.

yeah I definitely think you are right now. I guess it is just a viral rash. He is still saying he has headache and today tummy ache too but he wasnt eating much so I was a bit confused by that. As in I wasnt sure if he was hungry or not.
