8 year old with reactive arthritis

Yesterday DD's wrists, ankles, hands & feet swelled to the extent that she had no visible knuckles & cried if we tried to touch her on any of her swollen bits.

A&E diagnosed reactive arthritis, apparently as a consequence of a recent bug or sore throat or something. They asked us to return tomorrow for a further check & test results.

She came downstairs this morning with massively swollen lips, GP prescribed antibiotics & Piriton.

The stuff on the web suggests that this could last for quite a while & it seems to be very, very rare in kids

Has anyone else had experience of it?

sounds as if a referral to next paed clinic/seen on the ward might be an idea~ask for this unless she improves drastically.

hope she gets better very soon

Thanks morningsun.

We saw a paediatrician this morning & they now think it might be something else so we're hoping!

Irritable joints(esp hips) are quite common after a bug - we had to wait 3 months for dd2 to be diagnosed with Perthes Disease (bone crumbling in her hip) after being told it was "just" irritable hip following a cold.

She's now almost better (after 18 months) - waiting for what will hopefully be a "discharge" apointment in 3 weeks.

Hope the paeds can figure it out for you all - its ghastly watching your dc go through this.
