fall from horse - now sleepy and irritable

DD 7yo fell from horse today, banged her head.

now, 5 hours later she is sleeepy, irritable

What are her pupils supposed to be doing? When I open her eyes they don't react much.

Has she seen a doctor?

Her pupils are meant to be shrinking as you shine a light into them but you really need a doctor to do this to see how quickly they do so

Take to the doctor - sounds like concusion. Or A&E if quicker. You have to be sure with head injuries. Any headaches?

Sounds like concussion - I'd get her to A&E quick just to get her checked out.

She needs to see a doctor. Now.

My neice feel from a horse and banged her head. The hospital kept her in overnight waking her up 2 hours to check pupil reflexes and blood pressure and heart rate. They took it very very seriously.

Definitely take her to a doctor/hospital.

When i was doing riding instructor training they always said that it is the ones that go quiet after a fall that need seeing, the ones that make a fuss are generally ok.

I don't mean to worry you, but these things are best checked out.

You need to go to A&E tonight. The last time I reacted like this to a fall I had fractured the base of my skull. Not saying it will be that bad but you need to take it very seriously.

Check for local hospitals online then call and find out.

Have you found hospital yet? Bang on a neighbours door? Or dial emergency number for an ambulance - haven't recommended that before but it does sound necessary she see someone Now.

good luck , is there a children's hospital nearby they normally have a casualty area or your paed can advise(assuming not on holiday).

You absolutely must get this checked. Better to feel a bit stupid and over protective than be bereft. Hope she is ok.

She was really bright on the way home, didn't get to bed until 10pm then slept well. She is stlii a bit tired but that is likely the late night.

She was wearing a helmet, thank God.

She was gallopping, being led by one of the older girls, then they slowed down and she was allowed to rude alone. The horse was still going quite fast and went too fast round a corner and she fell off.

That was her account of it, I will ask the riding teacher what she thought.

I am a bit unsure, tbh. The riding school offers holiday club, either all day or half days. Yesterday the owner of the school was not even around, just the young girls (about 15 - 18yo) doing the lessons. Not saying that the owner was not there at all, but no sign if her at drop off or pick up time.

Anyone got experience with riding schools? Is this normal? It is very chaotic.

She does want to go back but not to the holiday club, to the normal lessons (1hour a week).
