My 4yr is biting off her fingertips

Hi

My 4yr old daughter keeps biting the skin off her fingertips.

I think it may be a replacement for her dummy, which she gave up willingly 4 months ago in exchange for guinea pigs. I also have a 5 month old. She doesnt seem jealous (in fact she seems to completely adore her)but it could be a contributing factor. She is also the sort of child who is ALWAYS bored and whinging.

Any ideas on how I can stop her, it is breaking my heart!

I would think that its her version of nail bitting. Would you consider that awful tasting stuff you paint on nails ... you could paint it on her finger tips.
