Help! Is Chicken Pox meant to be this bad in a nearly 2 year old?

My nearly 2 DS has chicken pox and looks like the creature from the black lagoon. He has enormous spots and great craters of scabby bits EVERYWHERE - bum hole, willy, up nose, in ears, between toes and fingers etc. Each spot/ scabby bit has a big red area around it - nothing like the tidy little blisters google images threw out at me. He has a high temperature and will not eat - except smarties - but is drinking OK, I think. He is utterly miserable, and so am I . . . He won't let me anywhere near him with the Calamine lotion, even though he wants "magic cream to make it better". He's on Piriton and Calpol, but still suffering.

Any ideas - husband away so I'm on my own - all help welcome.

Thanks

Sounds like he's really suffering with it. Have you tried cool boths - some say with oatmeal in it is very soothing.

My ds was 2 1/2 when he had it and wouldn't let me near him with calamine lotion, but you can get calamine aqueous cream over the counter which we found really good.

Hope he improves soon

xx

boths = baths

Oh you have my sympathies

My 1 year old had CP like this .... and if one more person said to me 'well its good to get it out of the way when they are young' I might have decked them!!!

The only thing that worked for her was baths with bicarbonate of soda in them. She had about 5 a day.

She was pretty ill for 3 days and unwell for 3-4 days either side of that.

Can you dress him in a babygro or similar so he doesn't have waistband or seams from clothes aggravating him?

We also took her out on car rides to get her to sleep as she was too uncomfy to drop off on her own, but really needed to sleep.

Good luck!

Oh, and Eurax cream is quite good, though it says for over 3s only.....
