Could do with some advice on burns, anyone about?

ds was burnt yesterday while 'helping' dp cook, he was putting spaghetti into a pan and caught both his arms on the side of the pan.

He has a burn on each arm, about and inch or two long and maybe a centimetre wide (mixing my measurements there).

Yesterday they looked pretty minor, well not insignificant but not a&e worthy, just a bit red. But today they look worse, there's no pus or oozing but there is some redness around one burn. He isn't complaining about them at all, hasn't got a temp, or appear unwell.

Basically, I am just worried.

Should I leave them uncovered? Should I take him to a&e? GP? if I leave them uncovered (as I did today) how do I clean them? and what with?

Oh and arrgh I just spent too much time googling this and I am feeling all twisted up and knotted and worried and oh, just, argh.

my beautiful little boy is hurt

aloe vera or vaseline aloe vera(if skin is not broken)
sudocrem is also for minor burns
just let him have a bath and clean them in there
always with burns 5 mins under cold water tap when they happen (essential)

I've actually got a new paediatric first aid book here, so if you hang on I'll copy what it says for you. It's got all the up to date stuff.

Thanks bb that's useful, I did manage to run under water for 5 mins, quite a feat with a nearly 3yo boy. I also put a bit of sudocrem on but now I am worried that was a mistake.. some advise to not put anything on.

oooh I don't like these bad parenting bits, why can't children just not get hurt? Not much to ask surely?

Seek medical advice if:

• The burn is larger than 1 inch square
• The patient is a child
• The burn goes all the way around a limb
• Any part of the burn appears to be full thickness
• The burn involves hands, feet, genitals or the face
• You are not sure

DO NOT:

• Burst blisters
• Touch the burn
• Apply lotions ointments or fats
• Apply adhesive tape or dressings

I hope that helps in some way, but if you're worried I'd pop him along and get checked out.

Have always found they are good if you go with little ones, never had to wait long.

dont put anything at all on it.

They always look terrible for the first week or so, but then settle down pretty quickly.

My worry is 1) infection because it is an open wound, 2)pain, it will be sore for poor chick.

SO defo a Doc appointment in case of specific dressings and ABs and advice about analgesia for him.

we have children's a&e here that's pretty good.

Think I'd make dp take him though being as they might well press the Big Red Bad Parent button and dp can therefore be contrite - though tbh I don't think he should feel too bad, this kinda thing does happen if you are going to involve kids in cooking, its unfortunate and yes preventable but at the same time not a hangable offence.

As your friend here has said, it's probably a good idea to go as soon as is physically possible, seeing as it's friday night and all. Take a book

went to a&e, burns are fine - not infected, but they dressed them and I'm taking him back on Monday to get dressings changed.

He looks very dramatic though because for his rather small burns they have bandaged up both forearms down to his hands.
