DS2 is 6 weeks and last pooed on thurs mid-anoon, well he did a tiny bit in 1 nappy earlier today, but it was hardly anything.

Bit worried now. Is this normal ?

He usually only poos once or maybe twice a day whereas DS1 used to do about 5 a day. Is it normal for them to be this different ?

He is breastfed and is weeing fine, lots of wet nappies yest and today.

Any advice ?

Breast milk is the perfect food for your baby - therefore can be pretty much totally absorbed, so baby may well only wee and not poo often. Await bf gurus - otherwise make do with those of us who are around

Thank you gigglewitch

I feel a bit better now.

Didn't want to go to bed in case something was wrong with him.

Totally normal for a BF baby, congratulations you have a non-pooing baby! Mine only poos about every 4 or 5 days but when he does .... OMG

BTW if you'd have told 18 months ago I'd be in on a Saturday night (it is Saturday isn't it?!) happily discussing poo in an internet forum I'd never have believed you!

bumpybecky · 27/06/2009 23:39

perfectly normal

mine have all done this, varying degrees of non-pooing. The record was about 10 days. I refused to leave the house after about a week, I was so scared of the baby exploding when we were out and about and not having a hose to deal with it It was quite dramatic when it arrived

Be careful.

DS went for 5 days without pooing and the doc said it was fine as he was breastfed and it was perfectly normal.

That very same day, my little gorgeous tiny 6 week old DS exploded so much poo out of his back end (while he was on my lap) that it reached his armpits.

Yup, armpit poo here too!

Mine did a mondo-poo on 5 hour train journey. Lovely

You need to keep a very close eye because you will have approx 30 seconds post-poo to whip off their clothes before it goes everywhere!

My baby kindly makes a very obvious straining sound complete with grunts when laying a big one

I win this one, my totally BF baby went ...drum roll 14 days without a poop. Then on day fourteen had a massive download.

Now he is well weaned and goes everyday.

Totally normal IF there is no pain/hard tummy and baby is happy.

Dont get worried by mums who FF because thier babies go all the time as there is alot of product in the FF that the baby can not digest aswell as BM.

Also its around 6 weeks that you start to know if your baby is going to be an infrequent pooper or not.

Dont give orange juice or try other things to bring it on, as long as baby is well you could do more harm to try and get a poop just to make yourself feel better.
