3 month old just swallowed bath water...

hi my 3 month old dd was just in the bath with me and she slipped out of my hands slightly (i know i should have been more careful) and i think she swallowed a gulp of bath water she didnt fall under the water atall but she really panicked and couldnt catch her breath after a few seconds she started breathing normally and crying and has calmed down now and has burped up abitof sick..

Will she be okay? or should i do something?

Nah, she'll be fine. We've all been there and our lo's have lived to tell the tail.

haha i should wlays come on here before i google something i just had myself paraoid because i read something about dry drowning? and that tey can drown of soemthing like 2 tablespoons of water.. she seems fine and is breathing fine i just worry about everything

I think you would notice if your baby had drowned! I think the whole breathing thing stops. Sorry to be flippant, I just don't think you should worry so much. You/she will do worse believe me, I know!

My 2 toddlers nick the hair washing cup off me at every opportunity and guzzle whole cupfuls of bath water!

If they swallow large quantities then it can be a problem (upsetting electrolyte balances), but a bit of a slip and a gulp won't be an issue. As soon as she can sit up by herself you'll probably find she tries to drink it deliberately...

i remember DS choking and spluttering on gripe water at a similar age, i was mortified as i had given it to him aswell!! i did not put him down for hours after that

when you bath her , make sure you have one arm sort of under her shoulders and holding on to the upper arm at the side furthest from you and prop her up as you are holding her

use the other hand to wash her

exact same thing happened to me when my dd was that age, water was coming out of her nose while she was coughing. it was scary but she was fine though.

Agree that she will be fine, she just had a drink, as opposed to inhaling it, which is different.
Wait until she wees in teh bath and then used her pouring cups to drink the bath water...

but how do i know that no water was inhaled?

She would have had to inhale a lot for it to even be a slight problem, as in one huge intake of breath underwater.
A small amount inhaled usually just makes you throw up, not spit up mind, proper throw up.

If you are really worried (and we are not trying to make light of your worry, but it really is not likely that she is in trouble) then if her breathing is gasping or she seems ot be struglling for breath (as her lungs have water in so no air can fit) then I woudl worry, if not, then I would not worry. even if a tiny amount did get in her body can absorb it, it is when your lungs fill with water that you have a problem.

Im so glad ive just seen this my son his 6 months nearly 7 months actually and also has water bringing snot out of his nose and gone to sleep but ive just been googling drowning i think as mums we just panick x
