Flixonase...Anyone using this for perennial rhinitis?

ds2 has been using this for about a week.
The good news is the river of green snot has disappeared
the bad news is he's having a lot of nose bleeds instead.
According to the instructions this is a very common side effect. So... should I go back to the doctor or is a week too soon?
Has anyone else had this? Will it settle down?

I have used flixonase in the past and I've now been moved on to Nasonex (a stronger one I think?), Singulair (an anti-allergy/anti-asthma drug), and levocetirizine (a stronger antihistamine) for my chronic rhinitis.

I do get more nosebleeds than I would have done before, but (at least my perception is that they are) much less frequent than when I started. They've never been massive nose bleeds though and never really bothered me that much and in comparison to being able to breathe freely and being able to be far more active, it hasn't seemed that big a deal!

In general though, it wouldn't hurt to go back to the GP and chat - even if he just tells you to give it a longer go. A lot depends on the severity of the nose bleeds, I'm sure.

He's taking Cetirizine as well. He doesn't seem bothered by the nosebleeds, but then he wasn't that bothered about the snot either
It's definitely working, he sounds like a totally different child. I imagine I've only ever heard him with a blocked nose poor thing.
I'll give it a while longer and see if they continues.

Maybe keep a note of when he gets them and how bad/long they are? You might notice a natural tailing off of severity/frequency, or you might notice them getting worse. Either way it would help to bring something more specific with you to the GP appointment?

Know what you mean about being totally different. I started my cocktail at the beginning of the year and I just feel radically different. Have a follow up appointment at the allergy clinic in August and am going to BEG that they let me stay on them

DH uses it in the summer. He does get nosebleeds sometimes, but then he's always got nosebleeds; he seems to just be a nosebleedy person.

Actually, thinking about it P&L, I was a nosebleedy person before too... just not as much. And my eldest son gets nosebleeds from time to time and he's not on any medication, so I guess it just might be genetic...

ds used it.

He used to have a permanantly green runny nose. It was awful. Eventually I got him sent to an asthma clinic and they diagnosed Chronic Rhinitis.
The doc was reluctant to give the spray as he said that he probably wouldn't work, due to most children's reluctance to have to spray put up their nose. I said ds would be fine as he was so used to his inhalers..

Anyway, we used it and it worked. No nose bleeds here.

When the prescription run out we didn't replace it, as he seemed so much better and ds has never had the same symptoms again.

I hope the nose bleeds ease off for your ds.

And thanks P&B, I was very nosebleedy as a child too. I had to have it cauterised a number of times, perhaps he is as well but I've never seen it because the stream of green mucous has blocked the way
