Friend is diabetic, insulin dependant. She's had two difficult pregnancy's but not has a 19mo & 5mo.

Her 5mo had a check today at hospital, he has to have a GA and have an Mri scan at Bristol hospital soon (lives in Plymouth) because they think his bladder and back bone is under developed.

The doctors asked friend if she controlled her blood sugars correctly throughout her pregnancy, she had and said yes, they then said that if there is a problem it has been caused during her pregnancy and due to blood sugars?!

She's very upset & feeling guilty, so I said I'd ask here for any advice...

He doesn't pee properly, it's a trickle throughout the day more or less, rather than one pee etc.

He apparently has no fat on his bum, just bone and skin, and he has a lump at the bottom of his spine/back bone area.

What do you think? Anyone any advice?

Tia.

gosh, i don't know but surely if there were risks relating to her diabetes they ought to have been explained to her early on in her pregnancies.

i've never heard anything like this before, but then i don't know much aout diabetes etc.l

hope someone on here can help!

There must be people on here who have experience of being diabetic and pregnant and might know more about the risks.

Maybe you should post this again and word the title so it has 'diabetes' in the it?

Yeah think I will, thanks girls.

I don't know much about diabetes but I do know that unccontrolled diabetes in pregnancy increases the risk of for example structural heart problems and also vacterl syndrome which does involve the vertebrae and kidneys. I wonder if it's this they are looking for?

It's unfair of them to lay it on her like that though. I'm not surprised she feels upset. She shouldn't feel guilty (easy to say) I'm sure she did her best to look after herself.
