Small bony lump on newborns skull

DD is 17 days . When she was born I noticed straight away she had a tiny hard lump on her skull just below her ear .

Forgot about it in new baby fug and have only just noticed it again it just feels hard and bony .

Will mention it to MW in morning just wondered if anyone knew what it could be ?

When my DD was a few months old I noticed she had a lump near her soft spot, just right of it. Asked HV because I assumed that whatever swelling she might have on her head from birth would of gone down by that time and she said its probably a cyst.
She said it wasnt anything to worry about because the skin moves over it easily and if it was more serious then the skin would be stuck to it.
(She is 19 months old now and its still there but you cant see it because of her hair.)
Do you think your DDs lump could be anything to do with your birth? My DS had a big haematoma on the side oh his head for 6 weeks after he was born.

Would second what mum2RandR says about the lump potentially being as a result of the birth. DD also born with a Caephal Haematoma on her head, due to me being allowed to push before I was actually fully dilated . The haematoma developed as she was basically banging her head against the remaining rim of cervix - I was warned that she would have it before she was even born. The lump disappeared by the time she was about 5 months old, but I have been told that it will show up on x-rays as if it's an old fracture, so it is noted in my red book just in case she has to have an xray in the future (hopefully not!). It was my HV that confirmed this all for me, so worth mentioning it if you see one or at your 6 week postnatal check.

Thats interesting TattyCatty about the old fracture thing, I never knew that. My DS also had a caephal haematoma because he was curling back in rather then coming out and his head was banging against something!

It would probably have been mentioned in your post natal notes but might be worth asking HV to make a formal note of it for you just in case. DD also spent a rather long time trying to get out but kept retreating back up - she inherited her father's sense of direction.

I was pushing before I should have so maybe it is to do with that .
