Rash...

Hi there,
DD (11.5MO) woke up during the night on monday and had the highest temperature ever! I didnt take it as the thermometer on the blink, but she was redders. Anyway, I gave calpol and stripped her off.
Next morning, she is covered in a body rash, face, arms, legs, torso everywhere, Doc said it was a viral infection and to treat with alternating doses of baby paracetamol and nurofen.
Her symptoms have all gone, no temp, no crabbiness, but her rash is still as visible as it was tuesday, could it be an allergy? is there enybody out there that has had this viral infection experience?
I'm a bit worried that its something I'm feeding her thats causing the rash!

Not a expert but lots of experience with this. ds2 was rushed to hospital with similar rash at 8mo as GP suspected something more serious. Turned out to be nothing.Now gets it nearly every time he gets a virus. Had it 2 weeks ago as did lots of children in our area- rash lasts a good week longer than the illness. Can also be caused as rise in tempdoes funny things to the skin as it sweats and sort of dries it out. I use lots of emollient (E45 or Doublebase) to stop in turnng into eczema patches as my dcs are prone. Hope this helps. But always feel confident enough to go back to your GP - they can't help if they don't know about it still being there.

Thats very reassuring ABitStretched, thanks. I just felt I needed to check whether its a common thing, she had a very good day yesterday and slept through last night. I thinking the temp was so high when she fell ill that it might be the cause of the rash.
will use some emollient today and try to keep the rash from getting sore.

yes! I heard today at DD's nursery that its doing the rounds and now i think DH has it! manflu alert!!!

Oh this is interesting as DD has a rash all over her torso in particular her back. It looks viral but she is not unwell in herself, well apart from being a bit more demanding, maybe that's why?

I shall watch with interest, sorry I have nothing positive to add that might help.

Hi, could it be roseola? My DS had a high fever for a few days, went off his food and drink, was very grumpy and had diarrhea, took him to the doctor's, they said it was a virus. Took him home, he woke up one morning, fever was gone but there was a rash throughout his body! But was absolutely fine in himself. A friend of mine, her daughter had the same thing and doctor diagnosed roseola, it's harmless and they get it only once before they get immunity to it for life. Most kids get it before they turn 2 (if they are going to get it at all).

BTW, the rash took about 2-3 days to go completely...

Hi all, DD update: she's STILL has the rash and we are now on day 4 since she developed in on wednesday! it is very slowly dissipating, but I'm even more convinced that it is linked to warmth and sweat, as she woke up from her nap this morning after lying on her left cheek and her cheek was covered in the rash, but as she has cooled down and played for a while after waking its started to fade again.

That Roseola sounds very like it!

DH has definately picked up the same virus, his temp was 39 last night and he was hot all night. Bless him, its almost more work looking after him than a demanding 12MO!!
I'm wondering whether he'll develop a rash too?

The thing about roseola is that it can't be diagnosed till AFTER the rash happens but by then, the nasty symptoms (high fever etc) are all gone. Glad to hear your DD Is better! Your DH won't get roseola, apparently, most people develop antibodies to roseola by the age of 4 whether they get the illness or not, so it's unlikely your DH will get a rash (hope not anyway!).
