Eczema or heat rash...??

My 14 week old DS has developed a red pinpricky type rash on his tummy, chest and the top of his arms - he's otherwise fine. I think it's probably eczema as I've had it all my life but I'm wondering if it could actually be heat rash as it's only appeared in the last few days while it's been sweltering.

I've been bathing him in lukewarm water with baby oil rather than soap and I've been slathering him in E45 cream. Any other tips?

Sounds like heat rash - i've had eczema all my life too but it's never been pinpricky. Bit of a catch 22 because the oil etc will probably make heat rash worse as will clog the pores. Possibly he has both eczema and heat rash? Have you tried Oilatum?

Heat rash I think. Ds had it terribly last summer and has had skin problems for the last year. We'd just about got them under control when yesterday he got heat rash all over his body I'd cut out the baby oil. Try just bathing in water, or maybe make little oat parcels from some old tights to use in the bath. ANd use olive oil as a moisturiser. Also, with tiny babies it's easy to overdress them. WHen it's this hot just a vest and a hat should be fine imo, and ds is being put to sleep in just his nappy atm.

Thanks for the replies. He has been stripped to his nappy today and I've left him in the breeze from the window with the blinds down and it has improved.

I've been putting him to bed in a vest and thin sleeping bag and have been airing out the bedroom durin the evening to ensure it's not too hot in there. If I put him down in less than that he tends to wake up too cold in the middle of the night.

It's annoying in this weather - he has a footmuff on his buggy which is probably too warm now but if I take it of there's nothing to shade his legs from the sun!
