My DD has always been on the small size (in the shaded section) HV has rung me up several times when we first moved to the practice ,when she was about 2.5 to come and weigh her .In the end I told her catagorically that I was really not concerned as she was growing taller at a steady rate even iof she wasn't gaining much weight. She eats very little and loves grapes apples oranges and raw sald.Which is not great if you are underweight.I've just checked her weight on NHS UK she is 4 yrs and 5lbs and weight exactly 2st which puts her on the first centile.
What actually are the risks of a child being underweight but obviously growing upwards

My friend has the same problem with her DS (just 5). Her paed told her the weight wasn't really an issue as long as he was consistantly growing (height).

Not really proper info, but just to cheer you up!

My son isn't 4 yet (will be in about 3 weeks) but when he was 3 years and 6 months he weighed 2st 11.5lbs.

Not sure that helps really but if you are happy your child is eating enough, then relax. I am sure I was told a child can't grow up and out at the same time!

Ds1 is 4 and when i weighed him at my mums at the weekend he was 2st 3lb. He too has always been on the small side ( usually the 1st or 2nd percentile) and isnt a brilliant eater, he is also short, but is growing upwards. He seems to be getting slimmer recently, so i dont know whether to go back to the health visitor, but, he is healthy, is always full of energy and doesnt sucumb to illness quickly, so think i'm worrying over nothing. I was always tiny as a child, so think he's just got my genes!
