What do I do about dry skin?

In the last few weeks, ds has developed patches of dry skin-only on his chest and back, nowhere else, but there were only a few to start with, and now there are more of them-big patches that just feel really rough. Is this something I should take him to a doctor for, or is there some cream I can get? I've stopped using stuff in his bath, in case that was causing it (tho he's 8months and had stuff in his bath since early on, and been fine up til now) Any ideas?
Thanks x

Um, just moisturise it, and think about not bathing so often. Water, believe it or not, increases the rate of trans epidermal water loss (TEWL). If his skin is dry, then he needs a barrier cream of some kind to keep the water in.
