Please help DD (6) has open sore on labia

She has a bath last night and cried after saying her 'bits' were sore. I put sudocreme on and that seemed to help. This morning she just went to the toilet and screamed afterwards so I lay her down and had a look. It is red and she has an open wound split along her labia. It actually turned my stomach when I saw it. I have put her in the bath to clean it but what should I do next? It looks agonisingly sore. Please help as I dont want to hurt her or for it to get infected.

Out of hours gp.

How old is she? Might she have scratched herself?

Thanks for replying. It looks like it may have split because it was damp. At the moment it looks very clean (not infected looking). She has no memory or hurting it. The sore goes along the line of a natural crease, like a paper cut. She is in the bath at the moment and is ok, not crying. She is 6.

I would say pat dry after the toilet rather than wiping. Keep clean with regular baths.

Thanks everyone. I think I will see if she will air dry on the bed then put on some sudocreme. It says it is antiseptic and I usually use it for this sort of thing although nornally it's just red sore, not an actual open sore.
