8 day old baby - caught a cold!

My baby is 8 days old and has caught a cold from his daddy!

The snuffly nose has started and I'm wondering if there is anything that I can give him should it get worse.

No temperature issues yet...but I'm monitoring it.

Thanks for any advice. x

Are you still under the care of a midwife? Why don't you try giving her a call and see what she says.
You can use a chest rub, vicks type thing, but check that its ok on a small baby first.

aw bad luck! you can use a snot sucker thing - sorry i don't know the correct name but they suck out the stuff from their tiny noses. Hope your baby feels better soon x

You can't use anything on a teeny tiny except saline nasal drops. Mine caught a cold (from the midwife) at the same age. I cried and cried . She was fine . I didn't give her anything that time, but I gave her nasal drops during her second cold at 2 months to make it easier for her to suck.

If he has trouble feeding because of the blocked nose and you can't relieve it with drops, or if he has trouble breathing, call someone - the ward you had him in or your midwife might be good places. Or GP? But he'll be just fine.

Putting the cot/crib on a slight angle helps( you can put a cushion under the mattress or a phone book under the legs) it helps them to sleep as they can breathe easier- hope LO gets better soon
