almost 3 week old unwell - anybody around?

I just want to see if it is anything to worry about before we all go up to bed.

She has slept more than usual but fed fine. But has just projectile vomited twice in the last 10 mins, I mean she soaked both me and DH as well as herself - it was coming out of her nose as well as her mouth. She also has a very runny nose and watery eyes.

Is it ok to just leave it and hope it clears on its own?

Is there anything I can do to make feeding easier with her stuffy nose?

Has she got a temperature? Shes very young and when my two where that little I used to phone NHS direct if there was no one else I could ask.
Just thinking that you have to be careful of dehydration at that young age. The people at NHS direct are very nice and dont seem to mind you ringing up if worried.

I am sorry you lo is unwell keep a close eye on her as it is easy for a baby this small to get dehydrated if she is vomiting. If you are concerned I suggest calling NHS direct for advice just to be safe.
As for the stuffy nose I am not sure if she is too young but a couple of drops of olbas oil on a hankerchief/tissue in her crib but where she cannot reach it may help. Also saline a drop or two in each nostril can help clear a blocked nose to help her to feed.
Hopefully someone can give you some better advice will be along soon.

See I have had bad experiences with them. Might give them a go though. She doesn't have a temperature and the HV is coming round first thing tomorrow anyway. We spent the evening in A&E the other night for what turned out to be nothing but waited hours to be seen.

Well, I'm about because it's only early evening for me. It's been a long time since I had infants but it seems to me that if projectile vomiting is happening repeatedly that is cause for concern. Yours sounds like a virus with the nose and eyes being involved. Do you have a bulb syringe to suck out the nose mucus? Yuck! If your daughter's nose is running you may not have to resort to that.

She keeps sneezing so it is coming out like that. Eyes is mainly one eye and it has suddenly got very runny and sticky?
It has only really been the last hour she has been ill, although I did wipe her nose a couple of times during the day. Other than that she has been fine until now.

As above, the thing that I'd be most concerned about would be possible dehydration following vomiting.

The fontanelles are usually the easiest indicator - if the one at the front of the head looks sunken you'd be best to take her down to A&E just to be on the safe side.

There's always the out of hours Dr if you don't want to go down the NHS direct or A&E route too.

I think that vigilance is very important in babies so small as their condition can change/deteriorate very rapidly.

The projectile vomit can look like a lot but was most likely just her last feed. A gooey eye, of course, could mean infection but no temp so that's good. I'd see if she holds down her next meal and what she looks like in the morning. She could have picked up a virus in the A&E.

Not sure about the eye. MIght be worth a call to your out of hours dr just to put your mind at ease?

Better to be over cautious and the staff won't mind.

Well phoned NHS direct and they have called out of hours GP for us. We are waiting for a phone call from them, which could take 2 hours or so just for the actual phone call! .

I am wondering if it could be related to her belly button? I thought it was infected a week ago, but everybody was telling me I was just worrying too much, and the doctor in A&E (thats not what we went for but I mentioned while we were there) and the MW (without checking it properly) said it was fine. I have checked it just now and it is still red/blotchy and hot. Over the past week, we have had blood and puss and a nasty smell from it. It annoys me when nobody listens to me! If it is this that has made her ill I will be really annoyed TBH as I have spoken to 2 health professionals about it.

I am off to bed for a bit while DH stays up and waits for the phonecall and watches DD.

She is wide awake which I assume is a good sign?

Is it normal for the sick to come out of their nose at the age?

Ok GP just rang. He was very unhelpful and said it is normal for babies to be sick a bit and she just has a cold. TBH he sounded like he had just got out of bed and was annoyed we disturbed him and he seem to not be bothered.

Oh well. We might as well all go to bed then.

I remember when dd had a cold when she was about 6 wks old. She power vomited EVERYWHERE. Dr said that the mucus settles in tummy & so there isn't enough room for the milk, so it comes back up. So it could be that?

I hope she is better in the morning. It sucks when you feel you aren't being listened to.

DD is 8wks, exorcist style vomiting isnt unusual, tha was probably trapped wind...i was soaked a few times when dd did it, you may find its a symptom that she's going to be colicky or it may be caused by mucas or simply she took too much feed for her litttle belly. Wait 30mins and offer a top-up

Sticky eye, again not uncommen, wash with cottonballs and cooled boiled water, usin one cotton ball per wipe, wipe from nose to outer eye...this will also work for cleaning that be;;y button if you're worried.
