Ok I feel daft asking this - could it be chicken pox?

Yes I should know this, but Baby GoodBits has been perfectly fine. No high temp, no crankiness, nothing. However he has come out in about six or seven spots on his back and one on his chest.

I've only seen big chicken pox spots before, so not sure what the early signs are. Also I always thought there would be signs of illness beforehand. And two children at nursery do have it and are currently off.

Tried to make an appt with the doc this afternoon, but none available, hopefully I'll have better luck tomorrow.

So could anyone tell me whether or not this could be chiken pox?

Could it be molluscum contagisium? Not sure if I've spelt that right. DD had same and eventually went to docs when it didn't go. Is a v common virus in kids (often picked up in swimming pools and v infectious) - bit like wart virus and eventually kills itself out (after about 18 mths). Totally harmless.

Thanks, I had to Google that Sydney! It might be mc, but the spots look redder than the images I found.

Not sure where he would have got it from as he hasn't been in a pool for a year!

all I can say is that my DS chicken spots started with about two or three red bumps - very small, one on torso, others on his back. It only took overnight to know for sure - by the next day a couple of them had become small blisters and he had a lot more.
He had no signs of illness. But I knew it was doing the rounds of nursery.

chances are, if you know there are children he comes into contact with that have it, then yes, it probably is!

DS was ill for two days with it and this was when the blisters were at their worst - the rest of the time he was fine.

Yep, maybe the thing is to give it a couple of days and if he doesn't come out in more or get ill then you'll know. Nothing GP will do anyway if its the pox or MC!

My DS had CP about 6 weeks ago and only ended up with 7 spots on his tummy in total! He was a nightmare beforehand for about 2 weeks though.

The spots were very red and angry with a little white blister in the middle of each which scabbed and then the spots took about 2 weeks to fade totally.

Dr said NOT ALL children end up covered in spots.

Yeah - I was kind of thinking about waiting a couple days. I phoned the docs in my initial 5 min panic. After calming down I realise there isn't too much that can be done.

Of to check out treatment options, just in case of blisters. I remember my brother and I being slathered in calomine lotion!

Good to hear that illness isn't always a precursor, I think the lack of other symptoms is what worried me more.

Just noticed him scratching at a spot on his abdomen that I missed in my inspection - so this could be it.
