Advice on treating vomiting bug, please!

DS (19MO) seems to have some sort of vomiting bug. He was fine this morning but threw up spectacularly after lunch. I put him down for his nap but he woke up after 30 mins or so and threw up all over his cot. He's now completely emptied his stomach but is having intermittent episodes of retching up bright yellow bile. Does he need a doctor? Should I try to give him food, or just water? Any advice welcome. Thanks!

My doctor friend advises giving just a teaspoon of water every five to ten minutes - worked for us. Any more than that and they just throw it up again. Don't give him any food for rest of the day. Toast and bananas good food to try after a few hours of nothing.

My DS (2.10) has just had it...spent every half an hour between 11 am and 8 pm plast night throwing up...just bile...so kept to small amounts of sipping water regularly. He's better today so hopefully yours too will have the 12 hour (or so) version too!
Hope he's better soon...

Thanks for the advice. Just tried a couple of tsps of water but they came straight back up as well. How long can they go without any fluids before I should be worried about dehydration?

Don't try again with the water for another 4 hours. He won't be dehydrated yet, don't worry .
