small pea sized lump in dd cheek

Hi about a year and a half ago i noticed that my 4 yo dd had a very small moveable lump in her cheek, just above the jawline. I took her to the gp as she also had persistant swollen glands in her neck and the said that it was probably just a gland, and as she has mild excema that it could be caused by that and the fact that she has very large tonsils. Her father also has one of these small lumps in his cheek. My dd's lump is very moveable and not really tender unless i press on it too much. Anyway after speaking to the gp about it did'nt really think about it until i notced that its still there. I'll take her back to the gp but was just wondering if anyone else had come across this in their dc's. I have depression and health anxiety so tent to over exaggerate everythin in my mind so if anyone can reassure me until i can get a gp appointment then i would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Forgot to mention that my dd is fine in herself, loads of energy and good appetite etc.

probably a waterfilled cyst

Rhubarb · 12/05/2009 16:46

I second the cyst. If your dh has one then she is probably susceptible to them. Have it checked by your GP again, but it's probably harmless.

DS1 had a cyst under the skin in his cheek that calcified; the surgeon called it a 'classical pilomatrixoma'. Apparently they disappear spontaneously in adults but in children they often harden; he needed surgery to remove it as it was growing. It wasn't dangerous, but it was unsightly and was becoming uncomfortable if touched; the dr said it could get infected if we left it.

Does that sound anything like it?

kaylasmum · 12/05/2009 17:00

hi thanks for your replies, not too sure about it baing a cyst as it moves about freely under the skin and is'nt visible at all, it can just be felt under the skin. Its just above the jawline between the chin and ear. Its been there for at least 18 months but most likely for longer. I will take her back to the gp but i'm sure i've been labeled as a neurotic mother as i tend to panic about things and imagine the worst. One of the good things about it is that it has'nt gotten any larger over the past year and a half.

Thanks again for your replies.

singersgirl - how old was your ds when he had this? Was it visible or did you just feel it?

He was 6 when he had it removed and it had been growing for about a year. It was visible - started off like a pimple or a blocked sweat gland but just kind of grew under the skin. It was very hard and about 0.5cm when it was removed.

i have a 6yr old boy and he had what started out as a small white pimple then grew, now its a large hard lump on the outside and when you look its ontop of a large lump under the skin also.

we went to a plastic sergeon yesterday and she said to remove it as it keeps getting sore and infected. we have the date through for 24th june but i was wondering singersgirl was your son left with a scar and if so how is it as we are worried about what will be left over after the op

our 16 yr old daughter has had 2 removed.. has one more now and possibly another.. frustrating. simple surgery removal but why? how to prevent any possible ways.. read one comment finally that amoxicilan might help but how..

Any update? I found same thing with my son and am trying to not worry, but also figure out next steps to get it checked.

Maryum90 · 13/06/2019 21:24

Did you find out what the lump was? My 3 year old daughter has exactly the same and it’s been there a long time. I suddenly noticed it again and now I’m freaking out. Have booked an appointment with the gp and googling frantically in the meantime as I’m so worried!
