My 2 year old won't take medicine

Help! My 2 year old son will not take his antibiotics. Me and DH have tried everything it seems. He becomes hysterical, throws up the medicine. We've tried a spoon, syringe, holding him down, putting the medicine into a bottle of milk, bribery, reasoning. EVERYTHING! He used to take medicine ok but now will not take any form of medicine including calpol, which I always thinks has a pleasant, sweet taste.
Any suggestions? I don't want him to end up on a drip in hospital, which is where I see this ending.

Calpol is urggh I can understand him rejecting that!

Is there any chance that he has learned that he can get a rise out of you by rejecting it?

DD was absolutely the same at 2 and I'm slightly ashamed to say we got round it by doing the Amoxycillin shot (you put a shot of it in a shot glass, and find something similar (DH reckoned Baileys was about right but three doses a day FFS, you'd be steaming - I used milk)). Bang bang, drink - you make it a game.

Alternatively if you are really cunning, you can drizzle it into a cupcake, refrigerate so it soaks in and cannot be detected and then feed it to him!

I like your style with the shot idea! After the battle we had with him earlier I need a few myself (Mmmm Amaretto methinks!)
Have just searched past posts on this subject. One interesting one was using suppositories, apparently the norm in Europe and US. Will maybe ask doctor next time in. Another possibility was giving tiny amounts at a time so its impossible to spit out.
When DS calmed down this evening DH explained that he would get a big treat if he had his medicine tomorrow morning. DS agreed. DH felt very proud of himself. We shall see..........
Strangely I love the taste of calpol, amoxycillin, all chns' medicines except medised. Bleurgh!

I remember my DD went through the same thing at about the same age and I managed to get it down her by hiding it in fruit yoghurt.

However, the idea of the shot game is inspired!

DS2 decided he would take his medicine this morning after I put a tiny bit on my little finger for a taste! He then took a whole teaspoon in one go! I'm so relieved! Only another 10 days to go.........that's a lot of treats!
