Can you get chicken pox twice?

I was sure not, but DD has come out in what look like chicken pox spots, but she has most definitely had it before (as a baby, she had it so badly that the HV borrowed her to show as a specimen to a group of students!).
Her BF at school has just been off with it, which is what set me wondering.

It is possible yes, people normally get it twice if it was mild the first time.

mankyscotslass · 04/05/2009 19:59

You can get it again of you have a mild dose or have it when a small baby.

My DH has had it twice, as has his sister.

I had it twice as a child, although once in Australia and once in Blighty. Hope DD is ok and not too itchy.

yes my brother had it mild as a baby, and then got it really bad when he was about 16

Just wondering the same thing. DD had very sever bout when she was 10 months old. we discovered CP like spots on Saturday night bath time, more today. Took her to GP's today he first said CP, until I mentioned that she had when she was 10 months old. Then changed his mind. Both dh & I thought it was chicken pox before we mentioned to eat other. Took her to preschool following GP visit as GP said it was spreadable infection

My dd had a serious case at 5 months but we have still been told to expect her to have it again.

UndertheBoredwalk · 11/05/2009 18:46

Yes definitely can, I have actually had it 3 times! First two times mild, and last time V V bad.

dingledangle · 11/05/2009 18:46

Yes my DD had it at about 11 months and then when she was 2 1/2 years old!

EHM · 11/05/2009 18:48

oh bugger!

I got it twice. everyone looks at me strangely when I mention it, because most people don't, but you definately can. I remember missing the last week of school one time, so must have been about five or six.

NorkyButNice · 12/05/2009 08:11

Yes my mum has had it three times (and measles twice she says).

Kentishwoman · 12/05/2009 14:15

My GP told me that his daughter had had it twice, so that's good enough for me! And if you're an adult, you can get shingles instead of chickenpox if you're exposed.
