6 week old with cold

Hi
Just a quickie. What can I do with a baby that has a cold and cough? I have elevated his cot and this morning he stayed in the bathroom with me while I had a shower (steam).
He's my second so I'm a little less paranoid about illness, but I certainly don't want this to develop. Should I take him to the doctor only if he gets a temperature, which he hasn't at the moment? That's what I do with my toddler.
I just know that you get usually get sent away from the GP with viral symptoms, but wondered if docs could actually treat such young babies with anything?

Any clues?
Thank you.

My DS2 had a cold a couple of weeks after being born - hazard of having an older brother obviously.

If he is still feeding and he doesn't have a temp, I wouldn't worry too much. Just keep an eye on him as they can change so quickly at that age.

The only thing we were advised to get were some saline drops from the chemist to flush their noses out if they can't breath whilst feeding. I never quite got the nerve up to try it - didn't want to drown him.

Thanks for confirmation of my instinct Niecie. Yes, sickly sister has smothered him with snotty kisses in the past 6 weeks so it was only a matter of time...

I had to use saline drops after he was born cos he was blocked. Funnily enough his nose clears once he is feeding, it's only on his back where he struggles. He is managing to cough quite well so I'm hoping he'll be able to cough up any phlegm. Temp as of 1830 is normal.
