Medised - how old must children be for this?

Just went to Sainsbury pharmacy to get medised for my DD1 (almost 5). I was told that it was now only for children 6 and over??? I thought it had changed to 2 years and older. She has had it before and I have always found it the best thing for her when she has a cough and cold, as she has now! Has anyone else come across this?

yep, its 6. It did change to 2, then they upped it and a load of other cough medicine type meds to 6.

IIRC there was advice published a few months back (I don't know by whom) that suggested that cough remedies for children under 6 were not effective or suitable ... I don't quite know how/if this was a new policy to be implemented ...

Medised is to ease breathing and relieve fever so I would question this

First used it when dc1 was about 10months old and it worked really well, that was when it was "safe" to use from 3 months upwards.

Now, if I need it, I lie about my dc's age. Nothing has changed in the preparation, ingredients are exactly the same, so why do the goalposts keep moving?

Answer, because some parents were found to be using it as a sedative, not because their children were ill.

Yet again, another example of the nanny state we are living in.

Thanks for that.

It isn't a cough remedy. It really is good for colds, especially at night as it seems to clear the nose.

I will have to go to chemist without children!

I have lied to get it already once! I'm just worried the next step will be prescription-only ... time to stock up perhaps
